Walter Haßman presented his credentials to the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.
During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.
Walter Haßmann was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Malta by the German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas, on 10th July 2018.
Previously he acted as Deputy Head of Mission in Budapest from 2005 to 2008, as Ambassador in Sanaa from 2014 to 2015 and as Ambassador in Kabul from 2016 to 2018.
After completing his military service and concluding his Studies of Forest Sciences with the Great
Forestry State Exam in Bavaria, Mr. Haßmann started his diplomatic career 33 years ago as a trainee for the Senior Service in the Federal Foreign Office. Since 1987, he served in different positions within the Foreign Office and at the German Embassies in Maskat (1989-1991), Pretoria (1993-1998) and Ankara (2002-2005). His positions in Berlin included Head of Division (2008 – 2011), Advisor (2011), Deputy Director-General (2011-2013) and Commissioner (2015-2016).
