The Societá Italiana di Storia della Medicina represented by its President and Founder, Prof Adelfio Cardinali, Prof Ignazio Vecchio and Prof Cristina Tornali have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Malta, represented by the Director Mr Massimo Sarti, under the auspices of the President of Malta, in the presence of Italian Ambassador, Dott Mario Sammartino.
This initiative has taken place considering the common objectives that exist between the two entities and the Maltese Presidency to promote initiatives that raise a greater awareness on bioethics, biopolitics, and civil rights as well as, comparative study of medicine and science in Italy and Malta, as well as in the countries of the Mediterranean. The agreement fosters the establishment of a cooperation in the cultural and social aspects of science and medicine, as well as the realisation of joint initiatives to disseminate awareness on related themes through multi-lateral meetings, both in Malta and in Sicily.
Moreover, the agreement promotes the organisation and exchange of student and youth groups involved in related disciplines, in order to ensure the future development of intercultural programmes intended to strengthen relationships between Sicily and Malta.
President of Malta, and Patron of the Societá Italiana di Storia della Medicina, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca expressed her satisfaction at the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, and said that this timely occasion serves as another opportunity for cultural diplomacy between the Maltese and Sicilians.
