President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, addressed a discussion entitled ‘How Women Leaders Change the World’ during the WPL Global Summit 2017, organised by the Women Political Leaders Global Forum in collaboration with the Council of Women World Leaders.
President Coleiro Preca emphasised that women and girls must be assured of equitable access to opportunities in all facets of their lives, from education to employment.
The President said that “when we respect the full dignity and well-being of women and girls and the value of their contributions, we can make a real difference in our communities and our society.”
The President stated that our countries, and our world, need inspiring role models and strong strategies for shared leadership, and that the world needs the participation of all our women and girls, alongside that of men and boys.
President Coleiro Preca further reiterated her belief that women need to be present at peace-negotiation tables “so that we can build sustainable peace through a bottom-up approach, which can only come to fruition when women are involved, since they are the souls of our communities.
