Ambassador Durga Bahadur Subedi presented his credentials to President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.
During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.
Ambassador Subedi joined the Nepali Foreign Service of the Government of Nepal in November 1987. In 30 years of his career in the Foreign Service of the Government of Nepal, he held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.
Subedi served as the Joint Secretary (Director General) of the Ministry of Foreign Service of the Government of Nepal from April 2014 to September 2016. He was Charge d’Affaires of Nepal to the Kingdom of Bahrain from 2013 August to April 2014. Subedi also served as the Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister- Counsellor at the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo, Japan from November 2007 to November 2011. He also served as the First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York from 2002 to 2005. He was also acting as the Consul at the Consulate General of Nepal in New York during his tenure in New York. Subedi worked as the First Secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma) from 1994 to 1999.
Subedi participated in the several bilateral, regional, and international conferences and meetings during his diplomatic career. He was a member of official delegations during the official visits of Prime Ministers of Nepal to India and the USA, the UK and Belgium. He participated in the UN General Assemblies in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006. He was also a member of Nepalese delegations to the FAO Asia-Pacific Conference in Yangon in (1998) and to the UNDP/UNICEF Annual Conferences in New York and Geneva in 2005 and 2006. Subedi led high-level delegation of the Government of Nepal to the General Conference of the IMO in London in 2017 and to the 120th and 121st sessions of the ICO held in Cote d’ Ivoire in September 2017 and Mexico City in April 2018.
While in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Subedi held a wide range of positions including Joint Secretary looking after the Central Asia, West Asia and Africa Division, Policy Planning, Development Diplomacy and Overseas Nepalese Affairs Division, and General Administration Division. He also served as the Deputy Chief of Protocol of the Government of Nepal from July 2005 to October 2007. He also worked as the Director of the Department of Hospitality of the Government of Nepal from April 2011 to August 2013.
Subedi holds a PhD degree from the Tribhuvan University of Nepal in Political Science. He holds an MA degree in International Studies from the University of Leeds of the United Kingdom. He also obtained an MPA degree from the Tribhuvan University of Nepal. He is pursuing second PhD from the Lumbini Buddhist University of Nepal. He has attended training courses in the Department of State, Washington D.C., the Louisiana State University, U.S.A., the New York University, USA, the United Nations University, Tokyo, and the Sophia University, Tokyo.
His areas of interests are diplomacy, literature and culture. He has published more than 24 books, both in Nepali and English languages, and edited more than 16 books and journals.
Subedi has been awarded by several national awards and prizes including Civil Service Medal, Nepal Education Gold Medal class ‘A’, Nepal Academy Gold Medal, Civic Gold Medal, and National Talent Award.
Subedi was born on 5th August 1966 in Jhapa, Nepal. He married Poonam Rajyalaxmi Subedi in 1996.
