The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Choi Jong-Hyun presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.
During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.
Ambassador Choi Jong-hyun presented his credentials as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Malta on February 22, 2017. He is also currently accredited to the Italian Republic and the Republic of San Marino as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea.
Prior to this posting, he has held numerous high-ranking positions both within the Government of the Republic of Korea and abroad. In particular, he served as the Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until February 2016, Ambassador for International Relations for the Gyeonngi Province in Korea as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Throughout his diplomatic career that has begun in 1981, he has specialized in trade policy, serving in such key posts as Director-General of Bilateral Trade Bureau, Head of Legal Services for International Trade and Director of North American Trade Division and Director of Trade Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was instrumental in the successful ratification of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement at the US Congress during his posting in the Korean Embassy in Washington DC as the Minister of Economic Affairs.
Ambassador Choi graduated in Political Science and International Relations from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea and received the Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
