The Ambassador of the Republic of Peru presents her credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca

 

On the 22nd November 2016, Ms Maria Elvira Velasquez Rivas-Plata presented her credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.

 

During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.

 

The new Ambassador of  Peru to Malta Ms María Elvira Velásquez Rivas-Plata, was born on the 5th of May 1956 in Lima. She attained a bachelor’s degree in International Relations (Peruvian Diplomatic Academy) and a master’s degree in Science – Use of the Sea (London School of Economics). She has, as well, a bachelor’s degree in Law (Universidad de San Martín de Porres) and a Certificate in Diplomatic Studies (Oxford University – Foreign Service Programme).

 

She entered the Peruvian Diplomatic Service in 1985 and was promoted to Ambassador in 2013. During her career she held several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as Director of Maritime Affairs, Director of Antarctic Affairs and General Director of the Treaties Division.

 

She has served abroad at the Embassies of Peru in the United Kingdom (Third Secretary: 1989-1992), the United States of America (Counsellor and Minister Counsellor: 1997-2002), Austria (Minister: 2006-2008), as well as Consul General in Loja (Ecuador: 2009-2011). She is now Ambassador to the Holy See and concurrent to the Sovereign Order of Malta.
