On the fourth day of her working visit in Canada, Her Excellency Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, the President of Malta, met with the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Her Excellency commended the work that Canada has done, and continues to do, to implement a successful policy for the promotion of multiculturalism.
“The successful integration of the Maltese-Canadian community is evidence of an effective multicultural policy, which Canada has adopted,” said the President.
“While the Maltese community in Canada has retained its cultural identity, it has also successfully integrated in Canadian society and contributed to the prosperity of Canada.”
President Coleiro Preca went on to discuss the importance of the United Nations Agenda 2030, with Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker.
Her Excellency said that Agenda 2030 and its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals are the responsibility of everyone, as one human family, and that the international community must do more.
“We must do more to address the inequalities that create social tensions, poverty, and conflicts,” Her Excellency said.
In this context, President Coleiro Preca shared the work that her Presidency is doing, to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals in Malta, especially among children and young people.
