“Poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.” – Nelson Mandela
These words came to mind today at the event organised by the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation in Valletta. I would like to wholeheartedly commend Rev Kim Hurst for her tireless dedication and commitment to help persons and families in need. I would also like to commend the dedicated team of board members and volunteers for their hard work in making sure that this foundation is able effectively fulfil its mission, together with the sponsors who help the foundation through all sorts of donations, both financial and in-kind.
It will truly be an honour and a privilege to support this foundation, by serving as a board member, to ensure that all the people who call the Maltese Islands their home, will have access to what is rightfully theirs – as established in Article 25.1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that “everyone has the right to a standard of living, which should be adequate for the health and wellbeing of each and every one of us, and our families, including food.”
