President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca attended the 4th edition of the event ‘Connecting through Culture’, organised by the Ta’ Xbiex Local Council in collaboration with various foreign embassies in Malta and CORE Platform. The President commended Ta’ Xbiex mayor Max Zammit and his colleagues at the local council for their vision in making this celebration an annual event.
The President said she is proud of the Ta’ Xbiex Local Council for its endeavours to help build a culture of positive peace. “Positive peace means the celebration of diversity, ending inequalities, promoting inclusion, and giving respect and dignity to each and every one of us, whoever we are and wherever we come from”. President Coleiro Preca encouraged the local council to continue with their efforts to promote positive peace and to include the active engagement of every member of our society.
The President added that such events create a safe and respectful space in which the beauty of diversity, the building of new friendships, and the nurturing of respect and dignity to all can be shared.
“When we respect one another, we make it possible for every individual to participate more fully in society, to express themselves in freedom, and to know that their dignity is being effectively safeguarded”, the President concluded.
